In this vlog, I’d like to share one of my favorite sayings, a mantra that has shaped my thinking for years and has powerful implications for your Bright journey. It’s this: When you become aware, you become responsible. The corollary is also true: when you are not aware, you are not (yet) responsible.
How does Awareness Relate to Responsibility?
A Bright Lifer recently wrote in, and she was distressed because she had eaten couscous, thinking it was a whole grain. Later, she learned that it’s not. It’s basically little balls of pasta. She hadn’t knowingly broken her Bright Lines, but was concerned regardless.
This is a great example of the relationship between awareness and responsibility. Before she knew what couscous was, she wasn’t responsible. Once she became aware, responsibility followed, and her future choices became clear.
Knowing that, she can relax and let herself off the hook, fully for the couscous she ate when she was not yet aware. It’s such a gift.
Another example: I accidentally took a sip of Sprite once at a party, thinking it was my sparkling water. The first sip wasn’t intentional, and my brain knew that. But if I’d taken another sip, it would have been a conscious choice, and that’s where responsibility begins. I didn’t, and instead washed my mouth out and got some actual sparkling water. My awareness changed everything.
Your Brain Holds You Responsible—but Only When You’re Aware
This vlog comes out on the cusp of 2026, a brand new year. If you know about Bright Line Eating but aren’t currently living Bright, or have been Bright in the past but are afraid to try again, awareness matters. Once you know there is a path that can ease suffering and produce positive results, your mind begins to hold you accountable for not taking action. This isn’t about judgment or your inner critic; it’s simply how human psychology works.
We watch our own behavior and draw conclusions from it about who we are. If we don’t act on something that we know can help us, our brain starts telling us painful stories about ourselves. It might start concluding that we don’t love ourselves, don’t value ourselves, or don’t have courage. But if we take even baby steps, those stories start to change. We begin to see ourselves as capable, courageous, and as someone who shows up for ourselves.
Want to Make A Change? It Starts Here.
Because of this, I want to invite you to take one simple step if it feels right to you. I have a new 2026 Bright Breakthrough Masterclass. It’s less than an hour long. It’s also practical and designed to help you start the new year on a Bright pathway. If you know that it would be a good idea to watch it, you’ll feel that truth inside yourself. If it’s not for you, then you’re not responsible—and that’s fine, too.
When you become aware, you become responsible. It’s challenging, but also liberating, and it’s how real change begins. I love you, and I can’t wait to continue this life’s journey with you in 2026.
